Computer Software Technology

Without computer software, the programs, games and applications being used and enjoyed by millions worldwide would not be possible.

Computer software is the guts behind the computer applications and the tasks they perform. A “to do” list for any application is wired into its programming so it knows the functions it is to perform. The people who are responsible for designing and creating computer software are known as software developers. Those who take the code and program it into the application or device for which it is intended are called computer programmers.

The majority of jobs within the computer software industry require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related program.

Demand for trained professionals in the computer software industry is expected to grow by 22 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The average annual salary for those working in the field is $90,060.
