Nursing Administration

Nursing administration is a management position within the healthcare industry.

Nursing administrators are responsible for managing nursing staff, training new staff, managing medical records, scheduling and inventory and supplies. Additionally, they serve as an intermediary between nurses, doctors and patients.

Administrative positions require a minimum of a master’s degree in nursing. Nursing administrators must also possess a broad knowledge of medicine and patient care, as well as superior leadership and management skills.

Quality nursing administration programs will focus on the study of health care organizations, economics and financial management of a facility and management of all nursing operations. As with other nursing programs, it is recommended to find one that has received accreditation through a reputable accrediting agency such as the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission or the American Association of Colleges for Nursing.
