Healthcare administrators may be tasked with managing a facility or overseeing a specific department within a healthcare organization. They are expected to be knowledgeable about changes in healthcare laws, technology used in the healthcare industry and regulations affecting healthcare services.

As of 2012, 315,500 people in the United States worked as healthcare administrators, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The majority of healthcare administrators work for healthcare facilities, followed by private or group medical practices.

Healthcare administration is a management position, so most jobs in the industry require candidates to possess a master’s degree in healthcare or business administration. The average annual salary for healthcare administrators is $88,580.
